Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

Positive Patterns Therapy is 100% telehealth, so we’ll meet wherever you are in New Jersey.

Please make sure you’re in a safe, private location during your session.

What are your hours?

My session hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM.

I may be able to accommodate a time outside of these hours.

My office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 8 PM.

I typically return calls or emails within 24 hours. We will review what to do should you reach out over the weekend or have an emergency.

How long is a typical session?

Sessions are a full 60 minutes.

If you are in therapy to work on OCD, we will phase down to 30-minute “maintenance” sessions after goals are met.

If you would like a different allotted time, I’m happy to discuss that with you.

Do you accept insurance?

I am out-of-network (OON) with all insurance companies. If you have OON coverage, I provide electronic documentation (a “Superbill”) to submit to your carrier for partial reimbursement. Most OON plans reimburse 50-80% of the session.

If needed, I am happy to assist you with benefits verification by calling your insurance on your behalf. I will email you the results within 1-2 business days. Please be sure to specify your interest in this when we connect.

How do I make an appointment?

We’ll start with a free 15-minute phone consultation. You can schedule this by clicking the link on my website or calling the number listed.

If we determine we’re a good fit to meet your goals, we’ll arrange a weekly time slot over the phone.

What age range do you work with?
I work with children 5-12, teens, and adults of any age.
How long will I be in therapy?

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. The length of time will depend on many factors. We’ll discuss what’s best based on your goals.

I suggest weekly sessions for at least the first three months. This frequency is important for emotional consistency and staying oriented to your goals.

Once outcomes are improving, we typically move to twice a month or less for maintenance. Many stay on every week to work more deeply on their goals.

Is our work confidential?

Yes, generally, everything discussed in session stays in session.

There are a couple of exceptions to the rule, which we will go over together during your intake.

Do you take notes?
You’ll always have my undivided attention, but you’ll occasionally see me jot a few things down. This ensures we make the most of your sessions and stay on track toward your goals.
Can I use a fidget toy, doodle, or draw during session?
Absolutely. I can even make suggestions! These are often a wonderful supplement to keep us focused.
Can I eat or drink during session?

Many clients bring food or a cup of coffee to the session.

There is no hard or fast rule with this. We all live busy lives, and multitasking is sometimes necessary for our well-being.

If therapy runs into meal or snack time, then absolutely bring your food. However, if it becomes a pattern, it could be an indicator that we need to find a better time to meet or determine if eating in session is serving as a coping technique.

Can my pet participate?
Yes, pets are welcome! I have seen dogs, cats, and bunnies hopping by the screen. They often like to lend support without a formal invitation.
What apps make your life better?
In addition to various podcast apps, I enjoy Pinterest, Smule (karaoke), and Splendor (a great strategy game)
